Photos : Ayade Presents Car, Cash Prize To Winner Of Miss Africa 2016

Winner of the maiden edition of Miss Africa, Calabar 2016, and Miss Angola, Loretta Mendez has been formally presented with a star prize of Ford SUV Jeep and a USD25,000 cash by the initiator of the pageant and Governor of Cross River State, Senator Ben Ayade

Carrying out the presentation ceremony at his private residence at the State Housing Estate Calabar, Monday, Senator Ayade also presented the sum of USD15,000 and USD10,000 respectively to the First Runner Up and the Second Runner Up, Miss South Africa, Refilwe Mthimunye and Miss Cameroon, Foje Anwi Jencey respectively.

Other contestants who participated in the Miss Africa, Calabar 2016 were each handed an envelope of USD300 for participating and for the show of good sportsmanship before, during and after the winners emerged.

The 23 year old was already the audience favourite before her eventual announcement as the winner where she won USD25,000 and a brand new Hyundai SUV with Refilwe Mthimunye of South Africa carting home USD15,000 after emerging first runner up and Cameroon’s Jencey Anwifoje taking home USD10,000 following her emergence as second runner up.

The remaining contestants went home with consolation prizes of 300 dollars each with Cross River Born Nollywood actress Kate Henshaw who was among the judges pointing out that; “We had a holistic overview of the contestants and considered not only beauty but intelligence.”

1 soldier killed, 3 others wounded during insurgence attack in Kangarwa (Photos)

Security operatives attached to a Polytechnic in Aba, Abia State foiled an attempt to murder a student. The suspects were paraded Monday, October 31, at Abia State Police headquarters in Umuahia. Residents woke up to a rude shock to find corpse of a man dumped at the Calabar gate, 8 Miles, Calabar, Cross River State this morning, October 14th.
A source who spoke to CaliTown, said the victim believed to be in his thirties appears to have been killed somewhere and dumped there.

Cross River State Police Command on Wednesday, October 12th, paraded 22 suspected criminals and foiled kidnap of a woman in Calabar.
